Dear Maintainer, The upstream has accepted an MR from Peter Hutterer to add "custom" layout to the XML rules file. This allows users to easily install their own keyboard layouts without having to patch the package or use other less reliable methods (e.g. xkbcomp is incompatible with GNOME and DEs using its gnome-settings-daemon).
