This was fixed upstream by the commit
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/openchrome/xf86-video-openchrome/commit/?h=main&id=0ec6917c5c919e81b4e2444608f15da13ab00b7a
which is included in the upstream version 0.6.185.
(Unfortunately, I only see these versions in git, not as released tarballs.)
