Can someone help this person out?
I only have access to 3Dfx and ATI cards, and do not experience this
problem.

Branden,

Reponse from you re. a DRI mismatch, I'm having the same issue but the
fix you proposed does not solve the problem.
Is there a solution? I was not aware of there being any v3 DRI, I
always use Alan Cox's kernels and have tried to compile with the older
DRI but to no avail.
I am running Kernel version 2.4.9 and the current X packages from sid.
Works for me. HAve a look at the kernel changelogs for info on where
the new DRI code went in. The DRI module can also be compiled
separately, it lives on Sourceforge.

Have tried with a recompiled kernel with only agp, no dri, and the dri
module (v3.0.2) from sourceforge.
Am still getting the error message:
(EE) MGA(0): [drm] MGADRIScreenInit failed (DRI version = 4.0.0,
expected 3.0.x). Disabling DRI.
Even with the 3.0.2 mga.o module...
When X starts I can just catch a line which appears to be telling me
something about /dev/dri .... it does not appear in
/var/log/XFree86.0.log .... how can I get it to output this to a file I
can examine rather than the display?
I'm using the mga/hal drivers from Matrox but I replaced/removed with
the Debian ones and still the same problem.
Would appreciate any assistance.
Jonathan
