Except that I definitely had both modules loaded with X4.1. I didn't touch my XF86Config-4 file after pulling down the X4.2, and thus the failure. I removed the xtt module, and it worked. Maybe X4.1 throws a soft error, and works anyway, whereas X4.2 throws a hard error and bails. Well, whatever. It seems to work, and nothing's misbehaving.
