retitle 175911 xserver-xfree86: [mga] wrong modeline being sent to monitor on MGA G550 AGP rev 1 at 1280x1024 resolution thanks
As a FYI -- yesterday, I dropped the resolution of my display to 1024x768 (the monitor isn't of high enough quality; I was getting too much eyestrain at 1280x1024). An email from somebody who was perusing the bug lists prompted me to try loading the X server without mga_hal available; the display came up correctly (and the sync rates appear to match reasonably closely -- the driver is claiming: (**) MGA(0): Default mode "1024x768": 94.5 MHz, 68.7 kHz, 85.0 Hz and the monitor is coming up with 68.5 kHz, 84.9 Hz. So it looks like the bug is being tickled only at 1280x1024 (and possibly higher?) resolutions. The email I mentioned indicated that that individual had no problems with 1280x960, but I haven't tried that myself -- 1024x768 is working fine for me. "Curiouser and curiouser."
