I made the decision I did based on a high volume of complaints, and a
consensus on configuration file handling which was reached on the
debian-devel mailing list over the past several months.
Once ucf is documented such that I can actually understand it[1], I will
probably migrate to it.
[1] Last time I tried to learn how to use it, I was put off by the
explicit constraint of its scope to management of Emacs-related
files, and a general style that appeared to presume I knew a lot of
things about how ucf worked.
