I don't think this bug should be closed: Neither in the gpm nor in the xserver-xfree86 packages are any statement how to setup mouse-repeationg right. Not everybody is an expert in setting up protocol of serial mices. On upgrading X there should be a warning if pointer device is set to "/dev/gpmdata" _and_ "Protocol" isn't set to "IntelliMouse". In the debian configuration of xserver-xfree86, if pointer device "dev/gpmdata" is selected, only pointer protocol "IntelliMouse" should be selectable, at least there should be a warning about that. Lots of people are upgrading, having old, 100% working gpm/xfree86 configurations, which only are suboptimal for xfree86 4.3. At least they should be informed. So I will reopen the bug.
