After updating xlibs from 4.3.0.dfsg.1-4 to 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8, the "<>"-key of my German keyboard stopped to send ASCII strings in X. In the net, I found the advice to purge and reinstall xlibs. After that, the "<>"-key works, but Alt-R and Alt-L both send an escape character.
