I also have this problem switching between VTs. I first noticed it after upgrading to 6.8.2.dfsg.1-6 from the X.Org packages available at http://www.acm.cs.rpi.edu/~dilinger/xorg/. Those packages did not have this problem. Replacing the radeon_drv.o with the one mentioned above fixed the problem.
