In light testing using the xorg currently in testing(6.8.2.dfsg.1-11), the problem seems to have gone away. I would think you can close this bug, or mark it as affecting sarge only. If it does reoccur with xorg, I will append/reopen this bug. Thank you for the follow up and thank you for your wonderful work.
