It is possible that the "blame" belongs to some other package... After doing dist-upgrade (Debian unstable) last night, X windows would not start, complaining that it could not find font "fixed"; and after i worked around that, it complained that it could not find font "cursor"; after working around that, all was fine. My workarounds were: For "fixed": /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias contained the following definition for fixed: fixed -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso8859-1 whereas it ended with "-15" previously (actually there were two entries, one with "-15" and one with "-1"; i restored the old fonts.alias file to try to fix things, but this worked only after commenting out the one with "-1". My workaround was to restore the old file and comment out the second "fixed" but it would likely work to simply add "5" to the line in the original file... i'll try that. it would appear(?) that the x server is being more picky now?? For "cursor": I figured this wasn't actually going to be used, so i simply cloned the first "fixed" entry, naming it "cursor". This did not appear in either the old or new fonts.alias file. The version of xorg i am using is: xserver-xorg-c 1.1.1-10 Perhaps this is an installation/configuration problem? fonts.alias is documented as being "not source" and does not appear when i do dpkg -L. On the other hand, i just did a full dist-upgrade and was not prompted for any configuration related to fonts, and the misc/fonts.alias file WAS modified considerably compared with what it was... -Ted Merrill -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (200, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15.1-kanotix-mp-2 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages xfonts-base-transcoded depends on: ii xutils 1:7.1.ds.2-1 X Window System utility programs xfonts-base-transcoded recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
