By removing the symlink $IDL_DIR/bin/bin.linux.x86/gl_driver.so I think I've worked around this.
Mind you: I'm a simple systems administrator trying to help an IDL programmer at my place of work. Running IDL 6.3, I can cause a segfault by typing: xloadct After removing gl_driver.so, the xloadct command runs fine.
