Hi, About 6 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding xmessage problems with its widget hierarchy. You provided a sort of patch which apparently still applies to latest release of xmessage. Does the problem still happen with Xorg/Etch? If so, I'll forward the bug upstream.
