Actually, the reason is that gnome-screensaver is currently buggy when 2 outputs are enabled. It seems to not display the dialogue anywhere, neither on the first nor on the second output. See #420339. Apart from that, your workaround is correct (xrandr --output VGA --off should even be enough). Brice
