Apologies in advance for probably choosing the wrong package, but I've really
no idea where this bug should be assigned.
On my ia64 box, when I try to set a background image, strangeness ensues.
An image of the gnome panel appears in the desktop (not a usable panel, just
the image), and attempts to manipulate windows below the panel fail, as if
they're not really there.
I've been using this background image for ages.
/usr/share/images/desktop-base/debblue-1600x1200.png, from desktop-base.
However, once day I rebooted and had to diable the background before the
system was usable. What changed in that period? Not really sure - I was
tracking sid. Certainly xorg was upgraded, and portions of gnome as well.
I can't reproduce this on my x86 laptop.
I'll attach a link to a video of this issue once I get a bugid back.

* it has been reported that GTK+ 2.8.12 contains a workaround
* only 2 people replied to Michel's ping 16 months ago, and both said
the bug was gone
* the upstream bug also tends to say it's fixed
