It's probably caused by the nvidia binary driver obsfucating symbols. So I am reassigning this bug to nvidia-glx for now. If you successfully catch a debugging backtrace with nice symbol names and no nvidia symbols (with Julien's suggestion), please let me know, I'll be happy to reassign the bug back to the Xserver core. Also, it could be good to test with another driver (either nv or vesa) so that we know whether it is nvidia-driver-specific or not.
