Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Version: 0.14.7~git20070706-2.1 Followup-For: Bug #464662
I installed X.Org on my new laptop yesterday and had the same problem: the Synaptics touchpad was/is not automatically detected. The touchpad did work as a basic mouse, but for example edge scrolling did not work. Only after manually adding an extra InputDevice section and a ServerLayout section did the touchpad work as it is supposed to. It also made the cursor a lot smoother. Initially the cursor would continuously move up and down a few pixels when there was no finger movement. This made it very difficult to select items correctly. I think this is likely to affect a lot more users than bug reports may indicate. Because the touchpad does work to some extend a lot of users will probably think it is recognized and never realize that it is not configured correctly. IMO this issue should be looked into before the release of Lenny!
