Mmmmh, I am afraid I am not yet able to test the packages from experimental... I installed libgl1-mesa-dri/7.1-1 and libgl1-mesa-glx/7.1-1 and restarted the X server. OpenGL application are quite slow and print the following error message: Failed to initialize TTM buffer manager. Falling back to classic. Just to be clear: glxgears measures frame rates about 16 or 17 times slower than before. Moreover, the transparency bug is still present... Hence, I thought: "ah, I need to upgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel and xserver-xorg-core, as well!". I tried to do so (even though mesa packages from experimental do not have strict dependencies on more recent xorg packages...), but it seems current experimental xorg packages are not yet installable on my system. For instance: $ aptitude -t experimental -s install xserver-xorg-video-intel \ xserver-xorg-core produces the attached output. It seems that the video driver packages that still have no version in experimental (e.g.: xserver-xorg-video-apm) provide xserver-xorg-video-2, while xserver-xorg-core from experimental conflicts with xserver-xorg-video-2. Hence, IIUC, I cannot upgrade to xserver-xorg-video-intel and xserver-xorg-core from experimental, unless I am willing to remove large numbers of packages, which I am not! If my analysis is indeed correct, oh well, I'll have to wait for some more time, before I can test the new fixed mesa version. If I am mistaken somehow, please tell me how I can install xorg from experimental without revolutionizing my box. -- http://frx.netsons.org/doc/index.html#nanodocs The nano-document series is here! .....................................................
