Looking closer at the X log file, apparently DRI initialization works
the first time but fails afterwards. So maybe the savage driver doesn't
properly de-initialize the DRI on a server reset. Does the problem go
away after restarting the X server? (If you're using a display manager,
just logging out and back in may not be enough)
