So the amount of effort required to sort out all the xbase-clients dependencies to find the ones which are actually relevant to xprint is not worth the benefit that xprint now provides.
xbase-clients is deprecated as a normal package, so too xprint is deprecated. So there's a kind of symmetry here. Both will disappear from Debian after squeeze is released.
