Yes, versions 6.12.x don't support KMS. However, this shouldn't disable xrandr (there is a message in Xorg0.log that can be ignored). In fact I just tried it and it works fine (I rotated my display and scaled it to .5x.5). Of course I'm not using composting (and I'm using gnome). Could you post your Xorg0.log and dmesg when the corruption occurs?
