I have a similar logfile with a probably related problem. Please allow me to describe:
During the last days I discovered a strange behavior. When I boot up, neither kdm, xdm or gdm will start automatically at boot. But: When I start them manually, for example using "/etc/init.d/kdm restart", then kdm (gdm/xdm) is started fine, and everything works perfectly. I examined the log files at the crash, but the only strange thing I saw in Xorg.log was this: --- (II) config/udev: Adding input device SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (/dev/input/event9) (**) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Applying InputClass "evdev touchpad catchall" (**) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Applying InputClass "touchpad catchall" (II) Synaptics touchpad driver version 1.2.2 (**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/event9" (--) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: no supported touchpad found (EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware. (EE) PreInit failed for input device "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" (II) UnloadModule: "synaptics" (II) config/udev: Adding input device SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (/dev/input/mouse2) (**) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Applying InputClass "touchpad catchall" (II) Synaptics touchpad driver version 1.2.2 SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad no synaptics event device found (**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/mouse2" Query no Synaptics: 6003C8 (--) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: no supported touchpad found (EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware. (EE) PreInit failed for input device "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" (II) UnloadModule: "synaptics" ------ I am still searching, which part of the system is responsible for this behaviour. The suspicious ones for me are xserver-xorg-input-synaptics xorg udev xserver-xorg-input-evdev So please help me, so that I can report to the correct maintainer team. All login managers are proven NOT to be responsible, as the same behaviour appears with any of them: kdm, gdm and xdm. When I start kdm (gdm/xdm) manually, the above mentioned messages related to the failure of Synaptics driver do not appear! Thank you very much for reading this mail and please, be so kind and point me to the correct maintainer team. Thank you very much! Best regards Hans-J. Ullrich P.S.
