Sorry, I may have misunderstood.

Let me recap:

You are looking for a way to inject config snippets into LightDM without modifying the /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf that is shipped in the Debian package of lightdm.

Then I proposed dropping your custom file into /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/ on your local system. You agreed that that is a good solution.

Then I closed the bug, because the means you need (drop-in files for config tweaking) is already present in lightdm's package, so not a bug anymore from package maintainers' points of view.

Problem solved, I thought.
