Kami,

There is a post from June 10th by Scott where he forwarded info about this.  Error 10 is caused by the /NOEXPORT switch which was removed in a more recent version of AVG and causes errors every time it is called.  After you remove that you will likely find Error 2 showing up on all zip files because they broke the /ARCW and /RTW switches somehow so that they return this error instead of the proper one, and I believe it happens with all zip files not just infected ones although I haven't tested that theory.

The net result of this is that AVG is useless at detecting ZIP file viruses, encrypted or otherwise.  They did however throw in a switch for detecting encrypted archives, but I haven't bothered to test that out because of the above.

Systems running AVG alone are quite vulnerable.

07/20/2004 00:00:23 Q98c30bb902725853 Error 10 in virus scanner 3.
07/20/2004 00:00:23 Q98c30bb902725853 Scanned: Error in virus scanner.

Has anyone seen this?  I did not find anything in the archives regarding this.

Regards,
