We've had the same problem with Blars. He has
either a large chunk, or all of, Rackspace's IP addresses listed. I've found
Rackspace to be an outstanding, responsive dedicated hosting provider. On those
rare occasions when I've seen SPAM coming from (or spamvertized sites
hosted by) another Rackspace customer, Rackspace has acted promptly in taking
corrective action.
Needless to say not one iota of SPAM has emitted
from our own IP addresses, which have been blocked to the best of my knowledge
since the day Rackspace assigned them to us. Since I saw that Blars' block applied to many more Rackspace IP addresses
than just mine, I asked Rackspace to approach Blars to find out what the story
is and how to get delisted. They reported back to me the
following..."The list owner doesn't so much talk
to us as he talks at us. He does not respond to specific questions and has
become increasingly hostile to [us]. At this point, I am really concerned about
anyone using this list and wondering why they would. This list maintainer is
obviously not employing most, if any, of the RBL best practices."
Blars is certainly entitled to run his list however
he wants, but I wish he would be more open to constructive dialog from those who
are trying to be part of the SPAM solution, and those who elect to include his
list in their SPAM-detection efforts should be aware of his modus operandi that
results in broad (and IMHO uncalled for) collateral damage.
