At regulary basis I have some .xls files blocked by my Declude spam filter. I would like to ban only .exe executables, but for some reason sometimes .xls files are also blocked.
Those are being blocked by design:
08/23/2004 17:07:54 Q0844219200e6886e Found file with mismatched extensions [tm 2003 B.I.C..xls- "tm2003B.I.C..xls"]; assuming .exe
The problem here is that the attachment has two different names:
tm 2003 B.I.C..xls "tm2003B.I.C..xls"
Since they do not have the same file extension (one is 'xls', the other is 'xls"' with a quote at the end), Declude Virus has to determine which file extension to use. It doesn't know whether an .xls file is safer than an .xls" file, so it assumes it is the most dangerous file type (.exe) to ensure that it is handled properly.
