Well, I have nearly completed an informal beta test of apt-get in alot of situations and it seems to be performing excellently. Scott says a .deb should be in incoming tomorrow
I have a version up for http, http://www.debian.org/~jgg/apt_0.0.1_i386.deb [Scott this is newer than your .1 deb, but older than your .2 I think] It has been tested in simple maintinance, bo->hamm upgrades, local mirrors, remote https, etc etc My bug list is empty, so to my knowledge the version in CVS works in all cases.
