I am wondering if this is due to the proxy-server problems. Ny university has some cache that needs to be specified for me to be able to ftp/http outside the university.
I am basically clueless but I know that I could not use wget until I had the proxy settings specified. Apt does not seem to have any of that stuff defined. Here is a sample output: my sources.list file # Remember that you can only use http, ftp or file URIs deb http://www.debian.org/archive stable main Output of my program com5# apt-get update Get http://www.debian.org stable/main Packages Error http://www.debian.org stable/main Packages Couldn't connect to www.debian.org:80 ERROR http://www.debian.org/archive/dists/stable/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Couldn't connect to www.debian.org:80 /-------------------------------------------------------------------/ Daniel J.
