Well, I faced a similar problem, when logged in from an Alpha Workstation running VMS 7.2. There's no difference between being logged in sitting at the Alpha console or telnet'ing from a PC running Debian via this Alpha to the very same PC. "apt-get update" segfaults, however "apt-get -q update" works fine! I could send you the complete strace's or a diff between the two versions. Maybe that helps. Greetings, Ulf
