Oddly you are the first/only person to report this. Are you certain that you have good hardware (ie can you compile a kernel without seg faulting?)
Also try rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin and run apt again. Otherwise, can you send me a copy of /var/lib/dpkg/status and /etc/apt/sources.list mime encoded and compressed. Jason
