Currently, I have a local mirror (first choice) and http.us.debian.org (second choice) listed in /etc/apt/sources.list. Should a timeout happen during download, the partially downloaded package is flushed from the cache before being requested from the other mirror. This is a major pain if the package is big...
apt's http method already continues a download if the file is available in only one of the mirrors.
