Reference: Apt 0.3.12 i386

Suggestion:
The use of mastered CDROMs within apt would be greatly eased by both the
inclusion of multiple CDROM mount points (local, nfs, SAMBA, netatalk,
...) and the ability to force loading of the packages (when possible) by
media location. If the http, ftp, file and CDROM accesss were threaded
and appropraitly controlled the lack of bottlenecking would greatly
inprove download time. This is expecially true when maintaining an
installation which receives sources from multiply locations and when
multiply machines want to share a caching/mirror of some packages.
