Package: apt Version: 0.3.19 When I invoke `apt-get update' from a root shell prompt it prints `Packages', rather than the expected `Packages.gz'. Here is a transcript:

I am using Debian GNU/Linux 2.2, kernel 2.2.17 and libc6 2.1.3-10.
