Package: apt Version: 0.5.3 I also have dpkg 1.8.3.1. Whenever you start an apt-get install of a package, if you ctrl-z and background it in bash, then it will finish downloading the files, then stop wanting input. Once you fg it, then it will crash and nothing will happen.
