I normally use emacs (hence the * versus *~ comment), but I cannot ever rememver editing apt.conf. Somehow I think this file has gotten deleted over the upgrades. Strange. If FreeSCO is timing out in 120 seconds, any recommendations as to when apt-get should? Thanks for the fast reply in any event.
