It would be really nice if apt-get had an option to put a package (or list of packages) on hold, currently you have to do something like : # echo -e '<package>\thold' | dpkg --set-selections which could well be emulated by a : # apt-get hold <package> It is already possible to unhold a package by doing the install step.
