It breaks debootstrap which makes it very difficult to construct a clean build environment, which keeps people from uploading other important transition packages like say an updated qt3/kde3. Also imho the critical severity was justified due to "makes unrelated software on the system (or the whole system) break" this bug makes the whole system not installable period... - Chris
