You're right,
I tried moving prefrerences out of the way and it works. I haven't try
upgrade yet, because I need to make sure it won't render my machine
unusable, but this looks like a good point to start investigating the bug.
You said that Otavio's version should work fine; I haven't tried it yet,
but I assume it will be available somewhere on the web, so I'll do it as
soon as I can and let you know.
