This was fixed in CVS and apt 0.5.5.1 was tagged including the fix, but 0.5.5.1 was released to unstable without it. Adam, was this due to an out-of-date CVS working copy? Could you release 0.5.5.1.1 or something to fix this, please? apt's release-critical bugs are (via aptitude and libsigc++) contributing to some very large blockages in testing which need to be dealt with soon.
