remove remove is identical to install except that packages
are removed instead of installed. If a plus sign is
appended to the package name (with no intervening
space), the identified package will be installed.
Disregarding the just plain freaky last sentence, the first sentence
should elaborate on the differences between purge and remove. I mean
us beginners wouldn't understand on why remove leaves a residue,
while purge doesn't.
Oh, and by the way, of all the debian package management tools, I
don't see any that keep track of dates of installation of packages...
Or maybe even "installed by who" [which of the several system managers
of say, a large system...][yes, all id=0, but...]

The man page does not say that remove is the opposite of install, or
anything of the sort. It says that it is the same, except that packages are
removed, rather than installed. This is accurate.
<literal/remove/ is identical to <literal/install/ except that packages
are
removed instead of installed. If a plus sign is appended to the package
name (with no intervening space), the identified package will be
installed instead of removed.
