After thinking on it, I'm inclined to believe that this is not a bug. If you have a source in sources.list, and it contains some Essential packages that you do not have installed, other packages from the same source could have undeclared dependencies on them, so they must be installed. This is a feature request for a way to suppress the installation of Essential packages, which I do not think is a particularly good idea. -- - mdz
