The subject and body of your message seem to disagree...I agree that a sample 'preferences' should be included, but not that it should be installed by default. That is, a /usr/share/doc/apt/examples/preferences should be supplied, not an /etc/apt/preferences. The latter should be missing or empty by default. I thought there was an example preferences file already, but I guess there are only the examples in the man page. -- - mdz
