Hi!

FHS should make clear whether the dirs under /var/cache can be deleted
or not.

The FHS, section 5.2, says:

   [...]
   /var/cache is intended for cached data [...] The application must be
   able to regenerate or restore the data. Unlike /var/spool, the cached
   files can be deleted without data loss.
   [...]

Now many apps in Debian will choke on *directories* under /var/cache
being removed.  Matt Zimmerman says to this (in the Bug#241901 thread):

Which is right, but: as directory is a special kind of a file, the
wording there is ambiguous, or misleading, at least (*I* was mislead).

I'd suggest the progs being able to survive the deletion of *anything*
under /var/cache, and FHS being worded more clearly.
