I'm logged in as a user. What is the default password to log in as
administrator in Vista Home Basic?

You probably have done this already, but are you logging in as the
Administrator?
Check your user profile's security rights and give yourself total
authority. Check any other accounts you have setup too.

Just my two cents...;-)

Whoops! I just checked the properties on <Program Files | MySQL> and
they
got set back to read-only immediately after I said to make them
read-write.

Next I checked <Program Files | Borland>, which I had set to read-write,
and
they are back to read-only again!

How do I make this *$%#@ Vista set those properties permanently for all
users and administrators?

Also, is this the cause of that message I get from MySQL under Vista, or
just another setback from Vista?

Suggestions appreciated.

Sincerely,
Rich Cooper

Subject: MySQL on D7 and Vista

Hi All,

I downloaded a copy of MySQL Server 5.1 for Vista and tried to install
it.
The installation went OK, but when I tried to run MySQL Server Instance
Configuration Wizard, it doesn't start, and I get this message:
----------------------------------------------------
C:\Program Files\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\MySQLInstanceConfig.exe

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side
configuration
is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.
------------------------------------------------------------

I made sure the file access privileges for <Program Files | MySQL> and
descendants were both read and write and tried it again - same message.

Is this coming from Vista?

What is a side-by-side configuration?

Where is the application event log stored?

Has anyone successfully used D7 with MySQL on Vista?

Suggestions appreciated.

Sincerely,
Rich Cooper
