RPMs are a convenient way oif installing software on Linux, I think its short for RedHat Pacjkage Manager (RedHat IIRC created the format).
You would be unable to use COM/DCOM on Linux- you might be better looking at WINE which lets you run Windows applications on Linux but I don't know much about it. If your application uses a lot of GUI (which most but not all Delphi apps do) then you might be better off moving to C# on Windows and Project Mono on Linux- easier to get into though a lot of work- COM stuff works well under C#. I could have said C++ but theres a fairly steep learning curve and of course GUI stuff is totally different. Java is easier than C++ but not terribly great for GUI.
