The parts of the registry that require GUIDs are well documented.
They're usually the COM-registration regions, or the MS Installer
settings. If you're not putting your information in any of those places,
then I'd recommend using something that's a little more readable than a
GUID.

If you got the same value every time, it would hardly be "globally
unique" anymore, would it?
Maybe you're thinking of Delphi's random-number generator, which
generates the same sequence of random numbers for a given seed.
