I dont know how many simultaneous connections you're able to keep with
your database, but if you need more than the default available (I
think it's 10, I really dont remember haha), you'll have to buy more
Interbase licenses ... That's another why you should use Firebird ;]

Just export your Interbase data as SQL and import into Firebird,
nothing will change at all if you're using the standard stuffs ;]
