The Apro component used to dialog through the COM ports contains the full source code: the component works very well: you could probably use ithe source, comment out the units that you don't want to use, try to compile it, and modify any bits that won't compile (message boxes which you can substitute with your own windows calls); I have used the comonent without installing it as a component in Delphi (creating an instance with New). Its mostly invisible except for some popup windows if the port is not assigned, and maybe some error boxes. It behaves very well.
