Reminder of the posting rules and policies of Delphi-En =======================================================
________________________________________________________________________ Please do not reply to this message. Comments, critics, suggestions, etc. should be sent to the moderators: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ________________________________________________________________________ This is a reminder of a small subset of the posting rules and policies of the forum. Anyone breaking the rules will have their posts moderated or will be banned from the group. The full set can be found here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/delphi-en/files/auto/Rules.txt * Provide a meaningful subject for your questions with some keywords ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Many of us don't have time to read all the messages, so please provide a meaningful subject for your question, so we can easily spot the messages in our area of interest or expertise. This also facilitates searches, since many of us use the forum as a sort of knowledge base. Also, try to avoid the use of words like "problem", "doubt", "question", "need", "help" (unless you are referring to a topic related to help, like help files), etc. WRONG: "Printing problem" RIGHT: "QReport: Band doesn't start in a new page" * Don't cross post to several Delphi groups ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Sending a message to more than one group at a time is considered bad manners. Some members of Delphi-En will be in the other groups too and will find it annoying to get 2, 3 or more copies of your message. Equally don't 'Reply All' to cross posted messages. Offending members will have all future posts moderated without warning; this may be removed after 6 months good behaviour. * Delete as much of the original message as possible when replying ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ To make messages shorter and more inteligable delete footers, and similar useless text in the thread when replying to a message. * No "Where can I find...?" or "Can anyone send me...?" messages ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ These questions usually go unanswered or they get answers like "Try searching in a-well-known-site.com", so these questions and their answers impact negatively on the average value of the messages. For those who are interested in this kind of messages, we have a forum specially dedicated to search/recommend this kind of material: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/components * No garbage messages ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Garbage messages are those that do not add value to the forum, and simply serve to increase the forum traffic, thus diminishing the average value of the messages: - "Thank you" messages. If you want to express your gratitude when a forum member helps you with a problem, please send the message to his personal account, not to everybody in the forum (i.e. not to delphi-en@yahoogroups.com). - "I want it" and "Me too" messages. If you want to ask for a component, tutorial, example, or any other meterial offered by a member, please send the request to his personal account, not to everybody in the forum (i.e. not to delphi-en@yahoogroups.com). - Off-topics, advertisements, chain letters, virus alerts, etc. - Complaint messages. If you want to complain about anything in the forum (like a member sending garbage messages), please send your message to the moderators ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), not to everybody in the forum (i.e. not to delphi-en@yahoogroups.com). * Attachments are discarded ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Due to viruses and other reasons, attachments will be discarded. If you have an archive to share, contact the petitioner directly about sending the archive to his/her email address, or send a link to the resource on the Internet, or send it to the moderators for uploading to the Files section of the forum. * Provide enough information about your problem ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ We are not fortune tellers. If you want help, give details. Include enough data about your problem, like for example, as may apply: - Delphi version and Update Pack - Windows version - Database type you are accessing (Paradox, Access, etc.) and data access components used (BDE, ADO, IBX, etc.) - Version of BDE, MDAC, Interbase, etc. you are using - Sample of source code where the error occurs (enough to reproduce the problem with minimum effort if possible) - Exact place where the error occurs (line of code) - Exact text of the error message - Moment when the error occurs (design time, compilation time, or runtime, plus any other circumstance that should be mentioned). For example, "I use D5.1 - W98SE - PDOX 7 - BDE 5.11" means you are using Delphi 5 Update Pack 1 in a Windows 98 Second Edition, that you are accessing a Paradox 7 database with the BDE components and that you have the BDE version 5.11 installed. We are more than 1,550 members in the forum, but we are still just a few. It's important that the forum grows in members, since more members mean more quantity and quality of answers. For this reason I'd like to ask you to invite friends, acquaintances, workmates and colleagues to join the forum (please remember this forum is for intermediate-level Delphi programmers - let's say those having some studies in OOP, and at least eighteen months of programming experience with Delphi).
