Hi Peter, > Since version 6.0, Delphi has a feature called WebSnap, which promises us to > create web apps as a "snap"... In all the time past, I never heard or read > anything about it.
I've written a number of articles about it for The Delphi Magazine, gave a lot of training sessions about it (before I switched to Delphi 7 and IntraWeb, from which I have last year switched again, this time to Delphi 2005 and ASP.NET). There are some public articles that I've written available as well: Build DB2 and Delphi 7 Internet Applications with WebSnap (Nov 2002) http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/db2/library/techarticle/0211swart/0211swart3.html With Delphi 7 WebSnap technology, you can quickly take data from an IBM DB2 Universal Database and move it to a Web-based browser application in, well, a snap. In this article, I show you step by step how to move the application to the Web. Non-trivial, relative high learning curve, powerful, but not very RAD-like (in that aspect, IntraWeb and ASP.NET score much better). > - What are the pro's and con's compared to other web technologies? > - Is there any GOOD documentation available (not the std doc of Borland)? > - Does anybody know a good tutorial? I still have two courseware manuals - one covering the basics features with small examples, and one where I implement an e-commerce website (that I recently rebuild using ASP.NET again ;-). I don't remember the URL for the WebSnap one anymore... Last time I did an IntraWeb training is several years ago - 2003 I think. Nick Hodges also wrote some articels about it on the Borland Developer Network (but he has also switched to ASP.NET ;-) > I just want to evaluate it to see it WebSnap could possibly meet some of our > webweaving problems... What are you problems? ;-) Today, I would not use WebSnap again. WebBroker is still fine for small work, IntraWeb was nice for Win32 web apps, but now it's only ASP.NET what I do... > Peter Laman Groetjes, Bob Swart (aka Dr.Bob - www.DrBob42.com) -- Bob Swart Training & Consultancy (eBob42) - Borland Technology Partner Delphi 2005 PDF manuals available from http://www.drbob42.com/training __________________________________________________ Delphi-Talk mailing list -> [email protected] http://www.elists.org/mailman/listinfo/delphi-talk
